KUCHING: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Retirement Advisory Service ( RAS) here has received 806 visitors since its inauguration last March.

According to EPF RAS advisor Ronney Khairuddin, the EPF RAS Kuching branch offers one-to- one free services to individuals who need advice on how to make vital decisions regarding their EPF savings.

“EPF members can walk in to meet RAS officers at the EPF office here. We have a room to offer advice for free. RAS is open to people of all ages.

“It is not only meant for old people because when it comes to retirement planning, we should start from young when you’re still productive and energetic,” he told a media interview after delivering a talk ‘ Retirement Advisory Services - Your first step to retirement planning by EPF’ held at tHe Spring Shopping Mall here yesterday.

The talk was organised in collaboration with See Hua Group to increase awareness and highlight the importance of financial literacy as part of retirement planning for all Malaysians. At present, there are only two RAS officers in Sarawak while there are 43 nationwide.

The EPF’s RAS was established in July 2014 at the Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya branches.

Presently, RAS counters are available at 18 EPF main branches in the country. All RAS officers are registered financial planners.

Ronney said they focused on raising awareness of retirement planning by organising seminars in schools and universities to reach out to future employees.

He added that the EPF’s RAS also conducted briefings for employers as part of its awareness campaign.

To a question, he said the EPF is in the process of expanding its RAS in Sarawak.

“We will be doing road show for more awareness while we’re also planning to open branches in Sibu and Miri.”

In Kuching, Ronney said EPF members can make appointments by calling either 082-240331 or 038922 6000 besides walk-in during office hours from 8.15am to 4.45pm ( lunch break 1pm-2pm) Mondays to Fridays.
