KUCHING: The visit by state cabinet ministers and federal cabinet ministers from Sarawak to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s Hari Raya Gawai dinner at his residence in Putra jaya is a sign of commitment from both sides to work towards returning the rights of Sarawak as stated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

According to Welfare, Community Well Being, Family, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, the visit, which was held a day before the Sarawak Day celebration on Saturday, signifies the willingness of the federal government to work things out with Sarawak.

“What is important is we are still in Malaysia and what we want is the right of being equal partners,” said Fatimah at the Desa Guru Hari Raya open house at Surau Darul Mualimin here on Saturday night.

“It was the first such ever dinner hosted by our Prime Minister for all state and federal cabinet ministers from Sarawak, and it really showed the true spirit of 1Malaysia,” she added.

On another matter, Fatimah urged residents of Desa Guru to monitor the whereabouts and activities of their children and not let them get into drug abuse.

“Cases of petty crime are on the rise and we believe that it is due to drug abuse. Thus, we should take good care of our children and not let them to be exposed to negative social ills,” she advised.

She urged the neighbourhood committee ( RT) to improve security in the area by conducting patrols, especially at night.

Later, she presented incentives to excellent students from Desa Ilmu and announced a grant of RM5,000 to Desa Guru RT for its annual activities.
