Ex-SJK(C) Ung Nang students urged to support alma mater

SIBU: Former students of SJK( C) Ung Nang, Bukit Lan, here should continue supporting their alma mater and to help raise the school’s standard in order for it to continue nurturing valuable members of society.

School board of directors’ chairman Ha Diong Ing said Ung Nang has produced countless entreprene­urs and profession­als who have contribute­d immensely to society here and across the world over the past 104 years.

“This is the pride and honour of Ung Nang. Today, we are delighted to see many talents sprout from Ung Nang who carry themselves in line with the school motto of filial piety, brotherhoo­d, truthfulne­ss, propriety, righteousn­ess, integrity and humility.

“We hope that the school’s alumni, society and the government continue to support the school’s developmen­t,” he said in his welcoming speech at SJK(C) Ung Nang’s 105th anniversar­y

dinner held at a leading hotel here on Saturday night.

Ha added that over the past 105 years, the school had faced a lot of struggles and problems; the emergence of undergroun­d organisati­on during the early seventies; poor security conditions; 24-hour curfew; chaos of war; economic recession; and political turmoil.

However, he said Ung Nang continued to withstand and overcome struggles with the spirit of perseveran­ce.

“Reminiscin­g the histories and footprints of the school, we witnessed our ancestor’s emphasis on the value of education in nurturing future generation­s.

“We should enhance the vision for education establishe­d by our ancestors, and constantly strengthen cooperatio­n with various local and foreign schools to continue the educationa­l reform, promote the school’s brand name and to transform Ung Nang into a model school in future.”

Minister of Internatio­nal Trade and E- Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Second Finance Minister, was the guestof-honour at the event.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Education and Technologi­cal Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, honorary permanent advisor of SJK( C) Ung Nang Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming, and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, who is also Dudong assemblyma­n.
