Volunteers clean jogging trek at Canada Hill

-

MIRI : A group of eight volunteers spontaneously got together on Saturday to clean up Canada Hill jogging trek by clearing away rubbish as well as some fallen trees.

According to one of the volunteer Jong Kiat Ngo, she used to make time to pick up rubbish in the area while jogging, when she met up with another regular volunteer known only as Mr Law.

“Several days earlier, he ( Law) saw me picking up rubbish and he asked me if I could help him clear away some fallen trees on the jogging track as it was a big task for one person.

“The next day I gathered some of my other friends and we went to clear the area,” said Jong who is also a regular jogger at Canada Hill.

She added that Law brought along his own chainsaw to cut the fallen trees so that it can be easily moved away from the path.

They also cleared away all rubbish which were left behind by irresponsible members of the public along the path which is a popular trekking spot among locals.

Apart from that, the volunteers also made a small drain to help water to flow out of the trek after rain, as this was also causing the path to be slippery and dangerous for those walking or running on it.

“There are many people who always make an effort to volunteer and clean up this Canada Hill area like Mr Law.

“Before this, I have also met with a man who voluntarily trimmed the grass here. I believed that all these volunteers should be acknowledged for their effort. They go out of their way to make the facility better, not only for themselves but also for others who utilise this facility,” she said.

Jong added that such selfless act deserved to be acknowledged as it could also act as an example for others to follow.
