CM to tee off 30th Sarawak Golf Classic
KUCHING: Sports tourism is being given more emphasis under the current leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the merger of tourism and sports portfolios in the last cabinet reshuffle was meant to achieve this objective of getting Sarawak to host more international sports tournaments which in turn bring in more tourists here
“And indeed, last year and this year, we have been given the honour as the venue for various international sports events,” he said when officiating at the 29th Sarawak Classic golf tournament at Kelab Golf Sarawak ( KGS) yesterday.

“I will sponsoryour international tournament,” he said.
The chief minister has also accepted the invitation extended by the tournament patron Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan to tee off next year’s tournament which will be the 30th edition.
Apart from that special gesture, Dr Chan also urged the organising committee to make the 30th Sarawak Classic special by coming up with special programmes.
“Hopefully, one day when the state has surplus money we can really improve the course. I told our Chief Minister - not much lah, maybe RM25 million a year for two years,” he said.
Meanwhile, KGS captain Dr David Sylvester Ling said the Sarawak Classic is one of the longest running tournaments hosted by the club.
He added that the club, which was built by the state government, is even regarded by many members as their second home.
