Limkokwing University inspires S’wak in style
KUCHING: The worlds of culture, modernism, and fashion clashed harmoniously once again through the illustrious collections presented by Limkokwing University at Borneo Fashion Week 2017.
Held in Kuching, Limkokwing University combined looks from the recently released Malaysian Soul collection with edgy-cultural pieces seen at the 2017 London Fashion Week.
During the July 7- 9 shows, Limkokwing University showed that fashion should not be bound by rules and methods taught in the classrooms, but it should be the fruit of limitless creativity.
The presentation once again proved to the public that Limkokwing University is at the forefront of the nation as a pioneer and creative hub for young minds in Malaysia.
Fashion in itself is individualistic expressions of creativity and braveness that are closely related to the president of Limkokwing University Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Limkokwing’s vision about creative education.
During the event, audiences were treated to a dazzling array of various Malaysian cultures captured effortlessly through the Malaysian Soul collection, the university’s fashion label Limkokwing Fashion Club’s, first ever Raya collection.
Merging heritage values found in Malaysia, Limkokwing Fashion Club embedded traits from the Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures into the designs of Malaysian Soul.
From the sleek gold designs to the chic black layering, all of the patterns imprinted in the collection showcased the unique ethos in Malaysia, such as the religious architecture symbols belonging to the mixture of races that the country is known for.
Since its debut prior to the holy month of Ramadan, the Malaysian Soul has been cultivating a huge number of devotees comprised of renowned Malaysian artistes, such as Erra Fazira, Sazzy Falak, and leading Indonesian actress, who is also Limkokwing University’s alumni, Acha Septriasa.
In addition, Limkokwing University also presented cultural pieces that were first unveiled to the public at the 2017 London Fashion Week.
The collection sweetly captures the essences of Asian and African cultures, which were then blended with Limkokwing University’s unique DNA that resulted in a unique fusion of fashion.
Only through the creative minds of the university, the world was able to witness Swaziland’s Lihiya transformed into a fashion forward design complete with an empowerment message from the university or when the Indian saree was used as a veil that added sacred value to an edgy look.
Touted as one of the world’s most international university, Limkokwing University gives recognition to the Sarawak culture by incorporating it through the various looks presented at the event.
Not only using the culture as inspirations for the designs of the collections, Limkokwing University also elevated the culture into a higher stratosphere by combining it with looks from the 2017 London Fashion Week.
Appointed as the official education sponsor for the Borneo Fashion Week 2017, Limkokwing University granted two full scholarships worth RM120,000 to winners of the “Emerging Fashion Designer 2017” award to complete a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Fashion Design and a Diploma in Fashion & Apparel Design.
The awards were granted to Azhar Zainal of AZ Brothers and Yacub Taha of Yacutha respectively.
Winners of this award were hand-picked and judged based on design originality, outstanding creativity, quality of workmanship, among other attributes.
In addition, the “Most Promising Sarawakian Designer 2017” award was granted to the creative forces behind Von Jolly Couture, Dato’ Raymond Jolly and Aaron G. Von Jolly for their inspiring works and achievements in the fashion industry.
The Borneo Fashion Week 2017 panel of judges comprised Datin Nikki Lugun, director of corporate communications for Limkokwing University of Creative Technology; Amir Luqman, creative director/ designer of Jazalo Equalliance Sd Bhd and Dr Esther Michael, founder and managing director of Borneo Medispa.
Recently, Limkokwing University was invited as the only Asian university to showcase its collection at the prestigious London Fashion Week.
It also expanded the global networks of its fashion programme to Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, and the United Kingdom.
It was also the first Malaysian private university to offer a Master’s degree in fashion innovation and brand management.
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is also the preferred university in creativity due to the high achieving community shown by the various milestones acquired by the university, such as its International Cultural Festival that attracted more than 13,000 guests from over 100 countries, high flying graduates competing in the recently concluded Cannes Film Festival, participating in the World Gaming Conference, winning the Asia’s Next Top Model competition, bestowed by the Guinness Book of Records with the ‘ World’s Largest Panoramic Image’ for PanaXity Kuala Lumpur’, and many more.
