KUCHING: A robber got a taste of public justice when his escape was foiled by members of the public and staff of a 24-hour convenience shop he attempted to rob around 2am yesterday.

According to sources, the 24-year- old from Kampung Santubong entered the shop.

Pointing a sharp weapon at the cashier, he demanded he hand over the contents of the cash register.

A few of the shop’s staff in the vicinity saw the robbery unfold inside the shop.

“As soon as the robber stepped out from the shop, he was apprehended by the staff who called the police MPV unit to the scene,” said the source.

The suspect who was injured on the face was sent to Sarawak General Hospital before being detained at the police lock-up for further investigations.

A police report was lodged by the worker in the shop and police are investigating.

Police seized a motorcycle belonging to the suspect after it was found near the scene.

The suspect according to sources entered the shop around 10am and appeared interested to make a purchase.

“The shop assistant handed the ring to the suspect who pretended to answer a phone call but made a run for it,” said the source.
