SUPP branch has big plan for Bukit Assek
SIBU: Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Bukit Assek branch has a mammoth plan to re- develop and create a vibrant and lively Bukit Assek constituency.
Branch chairman Chieng Buong Toon told a press conference here yesterday that the plan had been shown to former chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem in 2015.
“He agreed in principle to our proposal.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ll have to re- submit our proposed plan, this time to Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian,” Chieng said.
He said in the plan were sports facilities, a fly- over, condominiums, commercial centre, a health clinic and more. The proposed plan, when materialised, will benefit at least 10,000 people in the constituency, he said, adding that many people have moved out because of the ( poor) condition in the area.
Chieng said it’s not a SUPP Bukit Assek project, but the people’s project. He said the plan was not about asking people to move out and live at faraway places like Rantau Panjang.
“No. We will build condominiums for them within the constituency,” he said.
He said the two-phase project would involve over 120ha of land encompassing Hua Kiew Road, Layang Layang Road, Lai Chee Lane, Truth Lane, Emplam Lane, Tiong Hua Road, Rambutan Lane, Merlin Lane, Punai Lane, Lanes 8 and 10 Oya Road, Langsat Lane, Foochow Lane, Hardin Walk, Pedada Road, Huo Ping Road and Kapor Road.
Painting a rather pathetic picture of Bukit Assek constituency, Chieng said the people have been grappling with peat soil as most of the houses are built on swampy land.
He spoke of collapsed houses, abandoned houses, and many dilapidated buildings which are let out at low rental rates.
Meanwhile, SUPP Bukit Assek Youth chief Joseph Chieng said the local people would be invited for a dialogue session once the proposed plan has been approved.
“We need feedback and inputs from the people concerned with the development of the constituency,” he said.
