Kuching selected to host Internatio­nal Summit on Peace

KUCHING: About 800 delegates from around the world will converge on the city from Sept 6 to 8 in conjunctio­n with Internatio­nal Summit on Peace.

According to Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah three Nobel Prize recipients are expected to deliver keynotes address at the summit, namely President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia and Queen Mathilde of Belgium.

“We are very proud that Kuching has been selected to host this event.

“Kuching is known as ‘City of Unity’ which offers colourful and diverse landscape, rich in history and culture with 28 different ethnic groups living peacefully together.”

Kuching is the perfect place to inspire one to take action for peace and tranquilit­y,” Abdul Karim told a press conference after chairing a meeting on the event here on Wednesday.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin and Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Snowdan Lawan were also present.

The two- day event is organised by Junior Chamber Internatio­nal in collaborat­ion with the state government. Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the opening of the summit on Sept 6.

Abdul Karim also said many global experts and like-minded organisati­ons sharing the same purpose and vision would be featured and would also be leading sessions throughout the entire event.
