Council lauded for hosting LA 21, community programme
KAPIT: The local council ( Kapit District Council) is lauded for its initiative to organise Local Agenda 21 and Community Development for folk in the rural areas.
Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, said this was one of the government’s National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) programmes using assets of the various government agencies involved in the initiative for the benefit of the people,” he said when officiating at the third LA 21 and Community Development at Rumah Melayu Angkup in Nanga Latong Sungai Tekalit, a tributary of Katibas River, recently.
He was happy to note that the council had carried out the LA 21 and community development programmes that focused on health and environmental awareness among people in the rural areas.
On another note, Nanta said the government’s focus now was on connectivity; connecting the rural areas with R1 standard roads, roads built through Jiwa Murni programme, and the upgrading of logging roads.
At the same function Nanta presented My-Kid cards to several children in the Sungai Tekalit area.
He also pledged to provide an allocation for the repair of the damaged roof of the 18-door Rumah Melayu (longhouse).
A political secretary to the chief minister Tapah Ata, Song District Officer Jackline August, deputy Walikota of Kapit District Council Councillor Lawrence Listin Baling, council assistant secretary Kelimbik Sibat, Pemanca Edward Jamit Untam, Penghulu Ajut Dingin, and 16 village headmen were among those present at the function.
Among activities held at the event included fogging of mosquitoes, talk by some government agencies namely Kapit District Council, Natural Resources Environmental Board Sibu, Bomba Song, Song District Office, Police, Health Department and National Registration Department, firefighting demonstration, tree planting, children colouring contest and telematch.
