Food sale raises funds for the underprivi­leged

KUCHING: Students from UCSI University Sarawak Campus’ Faculty of Hospitalit­y and Tourism Management ( FHTM) recently organised a fundraisin­g food sale ‘ Lend a Hand, Help a Man’ in collaborat­ion with Hope Place and supported by UCSI’s Commerce Enterprise Club ( ECC).

The campaign to be held from July 3-7 at the university’s foyer from 9am to 3pm was a success with the public and UCSI staff and students.

Hope Place was establishe­d in 2013 to help Kuching’s needy and underprivi­leged.

The organisati­on is supporting over 180 families especially disabled ( OKU) children and adults, abandoned senior citizens and single mothers.

The campaign aims to equip UCSI students with the relevant soft skills and practical experience of event planning and management as well as give awareness of the underprivi­leged by fundraisin­g for needy families identified by Hope Place.

kinds of food and drinks for breakfast and lunch as well as light snacks.

A booth was set up to collect donations in cash and kind such as condiments for cooking, dry foodstuff, adult diapers and sanitary items.

The charity campaign was sponsored by companies like Grand Margherita Hotel, Riverside Majestic Hotel, Catama Borneo, Alvin’s Burger, Lee Fah Mee, Gammy Hair Supplies, Crunching Handmade, and individual contributi­ons.

Donations totalling RM2,500 were distribute­d to families identified by the organising committee.

He appreciate­s the hard work of his committee members.
