Jamit hopes to see badminton champions from Kapit

KAPIT: Six teams took part in the Chinese Inter-Team Badminton Challenge 2017 organised by Tai San Ten Associatio­n that was held at the Bletih Indoor Stadium here from July 19 to 25.

The competing teams were Magna Glow, Bahagia K-Box 2020, Beteck, Asia Vision, Tian Huat and Star Light.

The champion was Magna Glow while Tian Huat and Bahagia KBox 2020 were in second and third places respective­ly.

When speaking at the opening ceremony of the competitio­n, Bukit Goram assemblyma­n Jefferson Jamit Unyat encouraged enthusiast­s to take up the game seriously, saying they should strive to be champions not only in Kapit ( juara kampong) but players who are on par or better than those outside.

“I would like to see in future our badminton players able to shine outside Kapit competitio­ns,” he said.

He added that he would like to see various associatio­ns or sport clubs coming together to organise bigger badminton competitio­ns in order to identify potential players able to bring the sport to greater heights.

He announced a grant of RM5,000 for Tai San Ten Associatio­n to help it organise the annual badminton competitio­n.

Meanwhile, Tai San Ten Associatio­n chairman Kong Siau Kui hoped that the annual Chinese Inter-Team Badminton Competitio­n will help to promote understand­ing and cooperatio­n among the various Chinese organisati­ons in town.

“Every year, we ( Tai San Ten Associatio­n) organise this Tai San Ten Chinese Inter-Team Badminton Competitio­n. Our aim is to promote understand­ing and cooperatio­n among the various Chinese organisati­ons in town. We hope to bring them together for greater unity,” he said.

He added that the inter-team badminton challenge is specially held for the Chinese youth and sports clubs and among others, the aim is to promote competitiv­e badminton and to inculcate friendship and cooperatio­n among the various Chinese organisati­ons like Kwang Tung, Foochow and Chiang Chuan clan associatio­ns in the town.

Jamit and Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong presented the prizes to the winning teams.
