Sarikei schools win choral speaking contest
BINTULU: SK Methodist Sarikei and SMK Sarikei Baru were respectively crowned champion in the primary and secondary schools choral speaking state-level competition held in Bintulu.
Placed second and third in the Primary School category were SK Tanjung Batu Bintulu and SK Ulu Ranan, Kanowit respectively. A consolation prize went to SK St Rita, Sibu.
In the Secondary School category, second and third places went to SMK Kidurong Bintulu and Sekolah Seni Malaysia Kuching respectively.
The Best Script in the Primary School category belonged to SK Methodist, Sarikei, and Sarikei District had the Best Conductor.
In the Secondary School category, the Best Script was that of SMK Sarikei Baru and Bintulu had the Best Conductor.
In the secondary school ‘Drama Komsas’ competition, Kuching team emerged victorious. The title of the winning drama was ‘ Mahkamah’. Miri and Sarikei came second and third while the consolation prizes went to Limbang and Bintulu.
For individual results, the Best Actor was Afi ff Shafie who played ‘Azmir’ in the drama ‘Mahkamah’ while Elizabeth Bungga who played a prosecutor was Best Actress.
Best Supporting Actor and Actress were Rino Ajai and Nurul Farhana respectively.
Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak won for Best Cinematography and Best Director.
Bintulu assistant education officer Yusuf Harbi gave away the prizes.
“This competition can boost the confidence of our students and I hope next year, we will be able to attract more participants to make it more competitive,” he said.
A total of 11 schools throughout the state took part in the competition namely SK Abang Kadir, SK Methodist, SK St Rita, SK Ulu Ranan, SK Tanjung Batu, Sekolah Seni Kuching, SMK Baru Sarikei, SMK Kidurong, SMK Riam, SMK Bandar Sarikei and SMK Seri Patiambun.
