KAPIT: A total of 25 organisations in Pelagus received grants totalling RM204,600 yesterday.
Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang presented the grants at the N61 Pelagus Service Centre.
All PTAs (parent-teacher associations), JKKKs (village security and development committee) under N61 Pelagus will receive the MRP (minor rural project) grant. “All PTAs ( parent- teacher associations), JKKKs (village security and development committee) under N61 Pelagus will receive the MRP (minor rural project) grant. All PTAs will receive annual grants to promote quality education in my Pelagus state constituency. There are 13 primary schools,” he said.
“My strategy is to promote quality education. I put aside 10 per cent of the total MRP fund for education purposes. That is why I wanted feedback from the schools how to improve public examinations result. If the schools want to organise motivation camps or seminars, they could always apply for funds from me for the purpose. If they need printers or paper, come to see me.”
Nyabong said his strategy is to work closely with schools to produce as many straight-A pupils as possible in the constituency for Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah.
On which Pelagus school he would adopt for the state’s programme to promote English language, he said the schools have the power to decide.
“I leave it to the schools in my constituency to decide which school I should adopt. In this context, I appeal to all headmasters to treat this urgently and tell me why this particular school should be adopted.
“But as I said earlier, I’ve set aside 10 per cent of my MRP for education purposes. I want the schools to improve from year to year. I would like to have reports of school progress from year to year,” he added.
