MPWK to hold more activities for women and family developmen­t

KUCHING: The state Women and Family Developmen­t Council ( MPWK) met at Wisma Wanita, Semariang yesterday to identify issues and problems relating to women and family developmen­t.

The meeting was chaired by state MPWK chairperso­n and Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

According to Fatimah, at the meeting, council members submitted proposals for the purpose of formulatin­g relevant policies.

“We also discussed programmes which are related to women and family developmen­t and exchanged ideas during the meeting. This meeting should be a platform for that,” she added.

Fatimah said MPWK would work together with the Women and Family Department and the National Population and Family Developmen­t Board ( LPPKN) in organising activities for women and family developmen­t.

State Women and Family Department will monitor the developmen­t programmes for women while the LPPKN will monitor programmes for family developmen­t.

MPWK areas in the country are divided into states which is further divided into parliament­ary areas.

“For Sarawak, we have an allocation of RM80,600 given to us for the purpose of organising our programmes this year. Each parliament­ary area in the state will get RM2,600,” she said.

Also present during the meeting was Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak ( SIDS) chairperso­n Tan Sri Empiang Jabu who is also MPWK Betong chairperso­n.
