KOTA KINABALU: The Borneo War Exercise conducted in series by the Royal Malaysian Navy’s Naval Region 2 ( Mawilla 2) will boost the preparedness level, efficiency and professionalism of its personnel and assets, said its commander, Rear Admiral Datuk Abdul Rahman Ayob.

He said the exercise, held six times in a year, was able to improve the efficiency of all personnel and assets, as well as preparing for the real warfare.

“In the exercise, we will look at the ability of our members and assets in coping with various threats, and we will find out the weaknesses that we need to improve.

“The more we do this exercise, the higher the level of competence and preparedness, because we do not want any weaknesses to disrupt real operations,” he told reporters at the closing of the Borneo War Exercise 2/2017, here yesterday.

He said the Borneo War Exercise 2/2017 involved three RMN vessels namely KD Kedah, KD Jerung, and KD Ganas and also about 200 personnel in the waters off Kota Kinabalu and Mangalum.

“Overall, the exercise has been very satisfying and ended with no problems. Certainly, there are some weaknesses that we need to improve. So we will do this exercise more often.

“After this, we will hold two more exercises in October either in the waters off Kota Kinabalu or the east coast of Sabah,” he said. — Bernama
