Bomba to get more personnel, 2 new aircrafts at Miri Air Base

MIRI: The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) will increase the number of its personnel at Miri Bomba Air Base including pilots apart from adding two new aircraft this year to meet operationa­l requiremen­ts.

Its training division assistant director, senior assistant fire commission­er Mohamad Hamdan Wahid said an effectiven­ess study which was conducted by the department showed that the air base in Miri has a high impact on the society.

“I hope the increase in aspects of logistics and personnel would strengthen Bomba’s services to the community,” he said when closing a course on Wilderness Search and Rescue ( SAR) and presentati­on of certificat­es to team members at Miri Institute of Teacher’s Training ( IPG) here on Thursday.

Commenting further on the training, he said the fitness and intelligen­ce of members of the Multi Skill Team ( MUST Team) and the Malaysia Rescue Operation Tactical Special Team ( STORM) have achieved the required level of resilience.

He said JBPM would also continue to strengthen the developmen­t of certain courses continuous­ly which included exposing its members with new technologi­es such as hybrids, solar panels and working in tunnels so that members’ efficiency could be enhanced according to

Meanwhile, JBPM state director Nor Hisham Mohammad said zone 6 Bomba Sarawak office in collaborat­ion with Miri Amateur Radio Club will participat­e in the statelevel Innovative and Creative Group ( KIK) convention in October to introduce the SAR Tracking System used during the Wilderness SAR Training in Mulu recently.

The 12- day training which ended Thursday involved 33 team members from MUST and STORM team from Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan.
