Call on Sibu folk to rally behind UPP’s ‘two Andrews’

SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP)’s secretary-general George Lo has called on the townsfolk to rally behind the party’s two potential candidates for Lanang and Sibu in the next general election (GE14).

The party has picked former Sibu Municipal Cuncil (SMC) chairman Dato Andrew Wong Kee Yew for Sibu, and Andrew Ting Kee Nguan for Lanang as its potential candidates.

“These two young leaders are the future of UPP and we must make every effort to give them our fullest support,” he said at the launch of Sibu Develoment Plan I yesterday.

‘I must say, without fear of contradiction, that both of them are good leaders, dedicated and hardworking and definitely destined for success,” Lo said, adding that UPP Central would present the two Andrews to Barisan Nasional (BN) as its nominees for Sibu and Lanang seats in due course.

“We have every faith that our Prime Minister and Chief Minister will recognise that they are the most winnable candidates for the two seats,” he remarked.

Sibu, as a parliamentary constituency, covers the state constituencies of Bawang Assan where UPP president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is the incumbent; Lanang covers Dudong where UPP senior vice-president Tiong Thai King is the assemblyman.

“With the support and backing of the two UPP ADUNs (elected representatives), BN will have a strong chance of wrestling the seats back from the opposition,” Lo said.

“Should the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, in their wisdom, select the two Andrews as BN candidates, I hope that all BN parties would give UPP wholehearted support to ensure BN victory,” he added.

At the same time, Lo assured all BN component parties that UPP would give its fullest support to all BN candidates in the parliamentary elections.
