Former Pol-Sec lodges police report against Persatuan Biannah

-

KUCHING: A former political secretary to the chief minister, Edward Kurik has lodged a police report against Persatuan Biannah (Biannah Association) over a statement he said was defamatory to him.

Edward filed the report at Sungai Maong Police Station here yesterday for police to conduct an investigation on the culprits.

Speaking to reporters after lodging the report, Edward, who was formerly a political secretary to the chief minister and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) elected Supreme Council member alleged that the statement made by the association was intended to smear his name and the good name of his political party.

“To me the statement made by the association through the social media posting is defamatory and has the intention to smear my name. As such, this report is also to safeguard the good name of PRS.”

In his statement to the police he said the association through a social media posting claimed they received money from other state Barisan Nasional component parties but not a single sen from his party. The posting: ‘we received cash contribution from PBB the most followed by UPP & SUPP but not a single sen from PRS... go figure’

“This is a disgrace to my party, whereby political parties would not offer contribution in the form of money to any association.

“The contribution will be channelled through the Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds by people’s representatives in their respective constituencies,” he stressed.

Another posting allegedly claimed that Edward had never done anything for the association.

The posting: ‘sadly he never did anything for Persatuan Biannah, supposedly his own.’

He added there are thousands of people having access to the social media platform and the report filed is intended to clear his name and rectify allegations made by the association towards him.

“They cannot simply say I didn’t contribute anything as I was never approached to solicit funds for the association.”

Edward who was a Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) councillor from 2005 to 2015 said what he feared is that through such allegation made against him, the public would link it to the non-renewal of his service as political secretary to the chief minister (for the reason only the party president would know).

His service as political secretary to the chief minister was not renewed after the first term.

When asked about his short term service, Edward said it was the party president’s prerogative.

“I believe I have been a loyal BN supporter and PRS Supreme Council member and I believe that during my tenure serving as political secretary, I have conducted my responsibilities diligently in assisting the elected people’s representative in the constituency I was assigned to (P 198 Puncak Borneo)”.
