Team ‘Nurani Poliku’ is champion in ‘Pengisahan Negaraku’ contest 2017
KUCHING: Team ‘Nurani Poliku’ impressed the panel of judges with its performance titled ‘Sharip Masahor, Wira Tersohor’ emerging champion in the state-level ‘Pengisahan Negaraku’ contest 2017 yesterday.
The team, representing Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions, walked away with cash prize worth RM3,000, and will represent Sarawak at the national-level ‘Pengisahan Negaraku’ contest.
The date and venue for the national-level competition will be announced later.
The runner-up of the statelevel contest went to team ‘Anaq Vaie’ representing Miri and Bintulu divisions. The team performed ‘Tunku - Bapa Kemerdekaan’ was awarded RM2,000 cash prize.
Team ‘Satu’ from the Kapit division won the first consolation prize of RM1,000 after winning the judges over with their performance titled ‘Titis Darah Kanang’.
The second consolation prize of RM800 was awarded to team ‘Sri Kenyalang’ representing Sibu and Mukah divisions while the third consolation prize of RM600 went to team ‘Singgahseri’ from Sri Aman and Betong divisions.
Team ‘Nirmala Lawas’ representing Limbang division secured the last consolation prize worth RM300 with its ‘Buluh Perindu Irama Malaysia’.
Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian presented the prizes to the winners during a ceremony at Dewan SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor .
The contest was organised by the state Information Department in conjunction with the celebration of Merdeka.
Director of Information Department Sarawak Abang Sardon Abang Hashim said he was impressed by the performance of Sarawakians who had portrayed historical and heroic figures well.
“They have put up quite a performance on how our heroic figures fought and struggled foer independence.”
Abang Sardon added that the department chose SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor in Stampin because “this is one of the oldest schools, if not one of the oldest dewan (halls).”
The school hall is not equipped with air-conditioner and this induced the guest of honour to call for patience from those present.
Dr Sim said: “Regard this as a training. I know it is uncomfortable but we all have to put up with uncomfortable situation in order to train ourselves to be versatile, resilient and strong.”
He added that he was pleased with the performance of Sarawakians who had displayed their skills in entertaining the crowd and conveying historical perspectives.
