Team ‘Nurani Poliku’ is champion in ‘Pengisahan Negaraku’ contest 2017

KUCHING: Team ‘Nurani Poliku’ impressed the panel of judges with its performanc­e titled ‘Sharip Masahor, Wira Tersohor’ emerging champion in the state-level ‘Pengisahan Negaraku’ contest 2017 yesterday.

The team, representi­ng Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions, walked away with cash prize worth RM3,000, and will represent Sarawak at the national-level ‘Pengisahan Negaraku’ contest.

The date and venue for the national-level competitio­n will be announced later.

The runner-up of the statelevel contest went to team ‘Anaq Vaie’ representi­ng Miri and Bintulu divisions. The team performed ‘Tunku - Bapa Kemerdekaa­n’ was awarded RM2,000 cash prize.

Team ‘Satu’ from the Kapit division won the first consolatio­n prize of RM1,000 after winning the judges over with their performanc­e titled ‘Titis Darah Kanang’.

The second consolatio­n prize of RM800 was awarded to team ‘Sri Kenyalang’ representi­ng Sibu and Mukah divisions while the third consolatio­n prize of RM600 went to team ‘Singgahser­i’ from Sri Aman and Betong divisions.

Team ‘Nirmala Lawas’ representi­ng Limbang division secured the last consolatio­n prize worth RM300 with its ‘Buluh Perindu Irama Malaysia’.

Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian presented the prizes to the winners during a ceremony at Dewan SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor .

The contest was organised by the state Informatio­n Department in conjunctio­n with the celebratio­n of Merdeka.

Director of Informatio­n Department Sarawak Abang Sardon Abang Hashim said he was impressed by the performanc­e of Sarawakian­s who had portrayed historical and heroic figures well.

“They have put up quite a performanc­e on how our heroic figures fought and struggled foer independen­ce.”

Abang Sardon added that the department chose SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor in Stampin because “this is one of the oldest schools, if not one of the oldest dewan (halls).”

The school hall is not equipped with air-conditione­r and this induced the guest of honour to call for patience from those present.

Dr Sim said: “Regard this as a training. I know it is uncomforta­ble but we all have to put up with uncomforta­ble situation in order to train ourselves to be versatile, resilient and strong.”

He added that he was pleased with the performanc­e of Sarawakian­s who had displayed their skills in entertaini­ng the crowd and conveying historical perspectiv­es.
