MIRI: Twenty two nongovernment organisations (NGO), clubs and associations here received RM176,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants yesterday.

The grants were presented by Assistant Minister of Tourism Art and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin at a ceremony held at the office of SUPP Senadin.

Lee suggested that the recipients use the grants to hold international seminars or workshops.

“Active associations and clubs could organise workshops or seminars at international level to attract tourists into our country,” suggested Lee who is also Senadin assemblyman.

He said the allocation can also be used to hold activities that help boost the tourism industry.

“International seminars or workshop can attract the flow of foreign currencies into our country. At the same time, it gives us the opportunity to share our culture and foster good relationship with people from these countries,” he said.

Lee advised all MRP recipients to use the grant to carry out activities that not only benefit themselves, but the local community around them.

“Recipients of MRP grants must plan and implement minor projects to ensure the money given by the government is being used to benefit the people,” he said.

The government thanks all clubs and associations that have organised events for the local community.

“Their roles are very big as they not only contribute towards improving unity through their activities, but also improve ties among various races,” he said.
