Kapit to host state-level UCA Chinese New Year Fest

KAPIT: United Chinese Associatio­n (UCA) Kapit has lined up two festivity-related activities: the Tunglung procession for the Mooncake Festival and the state-level UCA Chinese New Year Festival which it will host.

“I’ve had a conversati­on with the Federated Sarawak United Chinese Associatio­n on the UCA Chinese New Year Festival. This is the first time UCA Kapit hosts this state-level event and I appeal to the main body, youth and women wings to work together to ensure the two activities run smoothly,” chairman Sng Geok Yien said.

“Although we are short of manpower and financial support, I believe we can achieve our goal through networking and team work. As the governing body of the Chinese NGO in town, I appeal to the various affiliated associatio­ns to give us their undivided support,” she said on Friday evening when officiatin­g at UCA’s first Fellowship Night at a local restaurant.

It was attended by the main body, youth and women’s wing and a panel of advisors and chairmen of various affiliated associatio­ns.

The activities of the evening such as lucky draws, karaoke singing and games were geared to inculcate teamwork.

Present were youth chief Stanley Ling Bee Chong, vice-youth chief Chia Weng Kwong, women chief Liew Mee Kiong, Foochow Associatio­n youth chief Ting King Yiing, Chiang Chuan Associatio­n youth chief Gary Ngu, Foochow Associatio­n women chief Anita Wong, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Kapitan Yap Hui Li, Kapitan Kong Chuak He, outgoing UCA chairman Liew Song Swee, Foochow Associatio­n chairman Sii Bang Ee, Tai San Ten Associatio­n chairman Kong Siau Kui, Kwang Tung Associatio­n chairman Kong Sien Hua, and UCA Kapit advisors James Chieng and Micky Ngu Kong Siong.
