MACC remands another officer over FIC Kuching hotel purchase

PUTRAJAYA: A former special officer of a former Felda chairman has been remanded for five days to assist in investigat­ion into the purchase of a hotel by Felda Investment Corporatio­n (FIC) in Kuching in 2014.

The remand order was issued by Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman after the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission ( MACC) filed the applicatio­n yesterday.

The suspect ,51, clad in MACC orange lock- up attire and handcuffed, arrived at the court at 2.20pm. He appeared calm.

He was picked up by MACC officers at his house in Kuala Lumpur at 12.30am and detained at 4am at the MACC Putrajaya headquarte­rs after giving a statement.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 20 0 9. The suspect was represente­d by lawyers Fahmi Abdul Muin and Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali.

MACC has arrested four individual­s to assist in investigat­ions into the purchase of the hotel in 2014.

Last Friday, MACC chief commission­er Datuk Dzulkif li Ahmad ordered an investigat­ion paper to be opened into the purchase of the hotel which was suspected to have been bought at a fee that was much higher than the market price.

On Sunday, a company director, aged 57, was remanded for six days ( until Aug 4) to assist in investigat­ion into the case.

He was detained at Kuching MACC office on Saturday.

On Saturday, the two other men, aged 47 and 51, directors of a company which had been appointed agent to manage the purchase of the hotel , were detained at Putrajaya MACC office after they turned up to give their statements.

The two have been remanded for seven days until Aug 4 to facilitate investigat­ions. — Bernama
