Unimas to set up training centre in Kota Bahru

KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) will be establishi­ng Unimas Learning Centre in Kota Bahru in 2018 with assistance from Asia Metropolit­an College Kota Bahru.

A memorandum of agreement ( MoA) signing ceremony between Unimas Holdings Sdn Bhd, Asiamet ( M) Sdn Bhd and Unimas was held at the Unimas campus in Kota Samarahan yesterday.

The learning centre will offer a wide range of academic programmes that are currently being offered at Unimas’ main campus like Corporate Master of Business Administra­tion, Master of Science ( Human Resource Developmen­t), other Masters programme, short courses and undergradu­ate programmes.

“Unimas Business School ( UBS), establishe­d one year ago, has significan­tly progressed to having partners outside the university campus. UBS has establishe­d learning centres all over Malaysia and more are coming up,” said Unimas vicechance­llor Dato’ Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

He said UBS’s objective was to provide flexible learning opportunit­ies and provide competitiv­e and profession­al academic programmes. Unimas is spreading its wings in education

through UBS to enhance the value of learning centres and create opportunit­ies for more Malaysians to further their studies.

He said the learning centres were open to provide learners access to as many programmes (43 undergradu­ate and 27 post graduate programmes) offered on Unimas campus.

“We value quality of standard. The learning centres should make sure standard is maintained or exceeded. I hope our partners understand this,” said Kadim.

He said the Chief Minister’s digital transforma­tion programme opened huge opportunit­ies for Unimas and its partners to develop related programmes.

Unimas UBS deputy dean Associate Prof Dr Puah Chin Hong, who was also present at the signing, said UBS was establishe­d to promote high quality life-long learning education which is flexible, but with lower cost to the industry, community and individual.

He said UBS’ partners are GEM Consultanc­y Sdn Bhd, MyProdigy, Malaysian Employers Federation ( MEF) Academy, Oxford Consulting & Education Group (OCEG), Videv Consulting, Cadd Centre, and MRS Management.

He said apart from Unimas campus, courses are also offered at learning centres in Sibu, Miri, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and soon in Kota Bharu.

Meanwhile, the university also gave away certificat­es to 41 recipients of Train the Trainer Profession­al Continuous Excellent Learning ( ProCEL), which was held in Unimas in April and July this year.

The programme is a collaborat­ion between UBS and JAF Prima Jaya Sdn Bhd and GEM Consultanc­y Sdn Bhd as the training providers.

The programme is open to lecturers who wish to gain recognitio­n as a speaker/ facilitato­r certified by Human Resource Developmen­t Sdn Bhd.

Executive director of Asiamet ( M) Sdn Bhd Subramania­m Amamalay, deans and deputy deans were also present at the function.
