Shell awards financial grants to NGOs for special projects

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Shell Malaysia has awarded financial grants to six non- governmental organisations (NGOs) to undertake six special projects that will benefit communities in Sabah and Sarawak.

In a statement yesterday, the oil company said its Sustainable Development (SD) Grants Programme serves as a catalyst to elevate sustainable development projects undertaken by NGOs and special interest groups.

The grants are awarded to specific projects based on practicality, direct benefits to the community, sustainability and longevity, and financial requirements.

Sabah Shell Petroleum General Manager, Ian Lim said Shell played an active role in developing local community skills and enterprise development through partnerships and social investment activities with the SD grants.

“Shell builds on long-standing partnerships for environmental conservation, sustainable livelihood and traditions, and empowering the next generation of Malaysians,” he said. The SD Grants have been awarded to 90 different projects across the nation since its introduction in 2008.

This year’s recipients were the Land Empowerment Animals People (LEAP) Spiral, Binturong Alam Ventures, PACOS Trust, Light Up Borneo, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Rumah Gareh for projects which include improving the livelihood of fishermen in the wetlands and coastlines, study on biodiversity, enabling access to energy, promotion of sustainable farming and economic empowerment. — Bernama
