Shimano Belawai beach fishing contest on Sept 10

SIBU: The 6th Shimano Belawai Beach Fishing Competitio­n is to be held on Sept 10.

Entry forms are available at Suria Trading Company at Pedada Road and the closing date for entries is Sept 7.

Sibu Fishing Club ( SFC) chairman Ting Hua Sing said the event is co- organised with Civil Service Recreation­al and Welfare Club ( Maksak) supported by Oft Pancing Sdn Bhd.

Shimano (S) Pte Ltd is the main sponsor.

Entry fees are RM20 for club members and RM35 for nonmembers.

Late entries are still accepted but with the fee increased to RM50 for members and non-members.

“We are targeting about 300 participan­ts this year and have 10 prizes for the lucky draw,” he said.

The competitio­n is divided into Category A ( participan­ts who use Shimano products) and Category B (open to all).

“Those using Shimano products (rod and/or reel) will get additional prizes from Shimano,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Champion for Category A will take home ULT C14 14000XSB (reel); second place, ULT 14000XSD (reel) and third place, SPC 14000XSB (reel).

Each of the winners will also get a Shimano Rod Model VSF425BXI.

The fourth-placed winner will take home Activecast 1120 (reel) and FM SURF 450BXG (rod) while the fifth-placed, Activecast 1120 (reel) and VEN SURF 425cxh (rod).

The sixth to 10th placed winners will each receive Vengeance surf 425cxh (rod).

The first to third- placed for category B will receive RM1,000, RM600, and RM300 respective­ly while the fourth to 10th placed will each take home RM100. They will also take home a trophy each.

There will be a special prize for those catching a fish weighing at least two kilogramme­s.

SFC is also organising the 4th Belawai Colouring Competitio­n at the beach which is open to children aged 12 and below.

The competitio­n is co-organised with Kelab Rando Belawai.

Entry is free and all participan­ts will receive a gift.

The competitio­n is divided into Group A(6 – 9 years old), Group B (10 – 12 years old) and Group C ( 6 - 12 years old).

Groups A and B are open to children in Belawai while Group C is open to children from Sibu.

“The top 10 winners of each category will go home with a trophy and hamper each,” Ting said, adding that the closing date is Sept 6.

All participan­ts must bring a photocopy of their Mykad or birth certificat­e besides their own tables and chairs.

Colouring medium will be provided.

Ting said they are aiming for about 200 participan­ts in the competitio­n.

Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administra­tion and Environmen­t Datu Len Talif Salleh will grace the event.
