KSMC will strive to do better — Chairman
KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council ( KSMC) will continue to strive for a better performance in every area of its services.
Its chairman Datuk Peter Minos said he was happy that the council had been given a ‘good’ rating by the Auditor- General ( AG), proof that the council staff had done a good job in the financial upkeep and physical performance.
He said KSMC would be sad and worried if it were rated ‘ not satisfactory’ in the AG fs report.
“But we must not be complacent. We must and we can do better. I want my staff to be good and ef ficient. Do their work wel l and respond to genuine public complaints expeditiously.
“There must be no hankypanky and KSMC, like all other government agencies, must do its work honestly and efficiently. That is its duty to the public, he said when asked to comment of the AG fs report Series 1, 2016, yesterday.
According to the report, KSMC is one of eight state ministries, departments and agencies that had been rated as ‘good’.
The others a re Padawan Municipal Counci l , Local Government Ministry; Sarawak Rivers Board, Land Consolidation and Development Authority, Bau District Council, Youth, Sports and Solidarity Ministry and Welfare Department.
The audit review found that the acquisition of the KSMC contract has been implemented in accordance with the rules set out by the Open Tenders and Quotations Committee, the Tender Assessment Committee and F inanc e and Tende r Committee.
The report said in the period from 2014 to 2016, a total of 79 tenders were approved by KSMC for the state road maintenance work.
The audit review also found that 22 or 27.8 per cent of the 79 approved tenders by KSMC were selected based on the lower bid price and closest to the council’s estimate, not exceeding 10 per cent of the council’s estimate, but not necessarily the lowest bid.
Assessments are also made based on job per formance and the contractors’ financial evaluation, said the report.
