KAPIT: The Nanga Melinau Health Clinic in Mujong, Baleh has won the Kapit Health Department’s Best Clinic Award.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi symbolically presented the prize of RM5,000 during the recent ‘Malam Gawai Raya 2017’.

Nanta also announced a RM10,000 grant for the department’s social activities.

In his speech, Nanta praised medical officers who willingly served here in the past.

“They were very dedicated health workers, who devoted their services to provide healthcare to the locals,” he said.

“On the other hand, I feel sad there were many medical officers who just came here to fulfil the requirements of the Ministry of Health ( MOH) and then applied out once they have gotten these.”

Kapit Division health officer Dr Hamidi Sarkawi pointed out that although Kapit Division is the size of Pahang, it is served by very few medical officers – two at Sungai Asap Health Clinic, three at Belaga Health Clinic, two at Song Health Clinic, seven at Kapit Health Clinic, and two at the Kapit Health Department.

He called for more medical officers to serve here as the number of those infected by vector transmitted diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis is still quite high.
