Personal services industry generates RM8.1 bln gross output in 2015

KUALA LUMPUR: Personal services and other activities such as computer repairs and maintenanc­e of personal and household goods generated RM8.1 billion in gross output in 2015.

In a statement yesterday, the Statistics Department said the amount was equivalent to a RM3.4 billion or 11.1 per cent increase per year.

It said the report was based on the informatio­n compiled by the Economic Census in 2016 on activities in 2015.

The department said, under the personal services and other relevant activities category, the number of establishm­ents providing the services recorded an annual growth rate of 4.3 per cent, from 36,729 in 2010 to 45,384 in 2015.

The number of persons engaged in personal services and other relevant activities also increased to 113,624 in 2015, compared to 95,490 in 2010, registerin­g an annual growth rate of 3.5 per cent.

The census also showed that 74,503 people, or 65.6 per cent of the workforce in the category were ful l - t ime employees, 30.2 per cent ( 34,297 people) were proprietor­s and unpaid family workers and 4.2 per cent ( 4,824) part- time employees. — Bernama THE Kuala Lumpur Tin Market (KLTM) was unchanged from Monday’s US$20,850 a tonne, supported by continuous demand for the metal.

A dealer said the price on the benchmark London Metal Exchange (LME) rebounded US$75 to US$20,675 a tonne, but the KLTM remained at a premium.

“Yesterday’s bids were dominated by buyers from China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, against one local seller,” he added.

Bids on the KLTM amounted to 27 tonnes, while sellers offered 25 tonnes.

Turnover was down three tonnes to 25 tonnes and from 28 tonnes on Monday.

The price differenti­al between the KLTM and LME was at a premium of US$175.
