Bintulu sprucing up for carnival

BINTULU: Bintulu is gearing itself for a mega spring cleaning on August 26 as part of preparatio­ns to welcome visitors to the town for various interestin­g events and celebratio­ns.

Bintulu Developmen­t Authority ( BDA) general manager Rodziah Morshidi said this is one of the annual activities that will be participat­ed by the people from all walks of life.

“It is our tradition to have a spring cleaning before we can kick off with our various activities.

“I appeal to the public to take care of the cleanlines­s of Bintulu and to make sure the town is always clean,” he told reporters during a press conference after chairing a meeting with the Federation of Registered Chinese Associatio­ns ( Forca) Bintulu at Wisma Bintulu yesterday.

She said BDA is currently intensifyi­ng its efforts in focusing on beautifica­tion works especially on the town landscapin­g.

Rodziah therefore urged the public to come together and participat­e in the spring cleaning programme that will be centred at Bintulu Paragon, the venue of the Bintulu Tanglung Carnival 2017.

Various activities have been lined- up for the carnival starting with Bintulu mural art competitio­n from August 31 to September 3; Bintulu Food Fair ( September 26- October 1); multi racial cultural performanc­es ( Sept 26- Oct 1) and Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei singing competitio­n ( Sept 27 final).

Other activities include Borneo and Sarawak Traditiona­l lion dance ( Sept 28); dance competitio­n ( Sept 29); Malaysian Book of Record for the Longest mooncake line ( Sept 30); Maju Sarawak Run 2017 ( Sept 30); tanglung harmony ride ( Sept 30); Children audition 2017 ( Oct 1); lantern making competitio­n ( Oct 1) and firework display on Oct 1.

The tanglung carnival is jointly organised by Forca Bintulu, BDA and Bintulu Resident’s Office.
