Najib, Zahid witness security forces undergo training on security aspects for SEA Games
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday visited the enforcement agencies and security personnel undergoing training and preparations on security aspects for the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games and 9th Asean Para Games.
The training known as Ex Rimau 2017 and held at the Royal Malaysian Police College Kuala Lumpur, here, started with the ‘tabletop exercise’ (TTX) at the Crisis Response Team room.
Tabletop exercise which was carried out together with the National Security Council and Police was aimed at testing the preparedness and competence of the various enforcement agencies and departments in managing security threats and crisis moments during the games.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
Najib also witnessed a simulated discussion held behind closed doors inside the Discussion Room and a simulation exercise of the Crisis Management Team which was also held behind closed doors before witnessing an anti-terrorist demonstration by the VAT69 team for about 20 minutes at the Parade Ground of the college.
The SEA Games is scheduled from Aug 19-30 and the Asean Para Games will be held from Sept 17-23.
Meanwhile, Khalid said police would ensure security would remain at the optimum level throughout the games and at all locations.
He said 12,000 security personnel would be deployed at the various locations, hotels and places visited by athletes and officials throughout the duration of the games. — Bernama
