KUCHING: Wushu Federation of Sarawak (WFS) president Allen Wong Siew Poh is confident of a good showing from the four Sarawakian­s in the wushu competitio­n of the 29th SEA Games at the KLCC Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 20 to 22.

The four athletes are Loh Jack Chang, Gjeblehem Bong Teck Fuu, Diana Bong Siong Lin and Audrey Chan Yee Jo.

Wong regarded Jack Chang as a sure bet to strike gold in the men’s taiji discipline­s as he has won gold in previous SEA Games and World Championsh­ips.

“Barring any upsets, Jack Chang should be able to bag a gold or two while Diana can also win gold if she doesn’t commit too many errors while executing her routines.

Audrey can also win medals for the country while it will be a good experience for Gjeblehem as he is making his first appearance in SEA Games,” said Wong.

Jack Chang will be competing in the men’s taijijian, taijiquan, Audrey in the women’s taijijian and taijiquan, Diana in the women’s nandao, nanquan and nangun while Gjeblehem is down in the men’s nanquan, nandao and nangun.

Wong, who is also the president of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM), said Malaysia have targeted to win six gold medals.

“The national athletes are feeling confident and raring to go after undergoing two one-month training stints in China in March and June this year.

“Indonesia will be the biggest challenger­s to our bid to emerge overall champions,” added Wong.

The Malaysian team coached by Chong Yaw Hui and Zhou Bin, and is managed by Ho Ro Bin.

Wushu enthusiast­s and supporters are welcome to watch the athletes in action as admission to the wushu competitio­n venue is free.
