MP: Kpg Limpaku Pinang has much tourism potential

LIMBANG: Kampung Limpaku Pinang a fishing village at the mouth of Limbang River has much tourism potential which can be developed to attract local and foreign tourists.

Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah said the village had natural niche products like fire flies, proboscis monkeys, homestay and handicraft­s.

“The government sees much tourism potential in this village which can be developed to generate more income for the people,” he said when officiatin­g at the ‘Fisherman Friendly Programme’ held in conjunctio­n with the briefing session on fishermen living lllowance (Limbang Zone) yesterday.

Deputy Resident Selamat Jati Yanjah, Malaysian Fisheries Developmen­t Authority (LKIM) Region Three officer Saliah Mudin, general manager of the Area Fishermen’s Associatio­n (Limbang) Stredella Romina, chairman of Limbang Fishermen Associatio­n Sondit Mail and headman of Kampung Limpaku Pinang, Simatzaman Sapar were also present.

Hasbi wanted the people to package their niche products to make them attractive and marketable.

He added that assistance was provided by the government to ensure the welfare of fishermen was taken care off.

“Among the assistance are living allowance, repair of jetties and houses of needy fishermen, incentives and subsidy for catching fish,” he said.

Earlier, Saliah assured that LKIM would continue to be relevant in line with its objectives to ensure fishermen’s welfare and socio-economy were taken care off.

“Testimonie­s of such commitment­s are shown in the allocation­s given by the government to LKIM to implement various developmen­t projects and also assistance to fishermen in Sarawak,” he said

At the function, a government grant totalling RM30,000 was presented to Kampung Limpaku Pinang JKKK to replace the old plankwalk leading to a school.

The 40 or so pupils of the school were also given stationery.
