-

KUCHING: Village chiefs and village security and development committee (JKKK) committees are urged to play their role in addressing social issues in their respective areas.

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said it is impossible to let the government and elected representatives tackle all issues in the constituency without the assistance of locals themselves.

“The government and elected representatives need the cooperation and assistance of the people themselves. This is to ensure we know their (people) needs,” said Wan Junaidi who is also Santubong MP.

“JKKKs have to be efficient and become the ears and eyes of the government on what the people need,” he said at the presentation of minor rural project (MRP) grant and emergency touch point assistance at Surau Darul Hijrah, Bandar Baru Samariang here yesterday.

Wan Junaidi lauded community leaders and JKKKs under Santubong parliamentary constituency, whom he described as working alongside the government to serve the area and its people,” he added.

He also said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members at branch level had been giving their fullest support in serving the people, and urged them to continue to listen to the people and assist the government in implementing its policies.

The event yesterday saw presentation of education assistance worth RM14,800 to poor families, RM21,000 to patients with chronic disease and MRP worth RM65,000, while Bakti gave assistance worth RM6,000 to students and RM5,000 to a patient with chronic disease.

The touchpoint assistance worth RM100,800 on the other hand was the fourth one given this year under Santubong parliamentary seat.

Wan Junaidi’s wife Datin Seri Feona Wan Junaidi, Amanah Khairat Yayasan Budaya Melayu Sarawak (AKYBMS) general manager Datu Dr Sanib Said and Pemanca Rashidi Junai were also present.
