Lions launch ‘The Future of Peace’ poster contest

SIBU: Lions Club Internatio­nal (LCI) District 308-A2 Region 2 yesterday jointly launched ‘The Future of Peace’ Lion Internatio­nal Peace poster contest at the Sibu Gateway.

LCI District 308-A2 Region 2 comprises Lions Club of Sibu Host, Sibu Mandarin, Seduan, Pahlawan, Sibu Berjaya, Sibu City, Sibu Jaya, Sungai Merah, Bawang Assan, Nangka, Queensway, Lanang, Rejang, Dudong, Sarikei, Bintangor, Kapit, Song and Mukah.

The launching ceremony was performed by the governor of LCI District 308-A2, Pelly Lee.

Pelly said Lions clubs around the world have proudly sponsored the LCI peace poster contest for youth since 1988, to give young people the opportunit­y to express their feelings for world peace and to share their visions of peace.

According to her, 600,000 children in 75 countries participat­ed in the contest annually. The theme for 2017-2018 peace poster contest, ‘The future of Peace’ is in conjunctio­n to LCI towards 30 years of peace. Students aged 11, 12 or 13 as of Nov 15 are eligible to participat­e.

Earlier in his welcoming speech, organising chairman Kelvin Lau who is also president of Lions Club of Sibu Pahlawan said LCI this year is celebratin­g the 30th anniversar­y for the peace poster contest which was truly a platform for children to express their vision of peace through art form.

“This is where our children pour out their feelings for world peace, be it a poster filled with people gathering together or hands with different skin colours holding as one or a drove which is the symbol of peace with its wings enveloping the earth.

“It is through such abundance of images that we in turn can be inspired to strive for world peace,” he pointed out.
