Make world a better place to live in, Lions urged

SIBU: Members of the seven Lions Clubs here are urged to serve their community and fellow fraternity with love, kindness and a harmonious serving spirit in making this world and community a better place to live in.

In making the call, Governor of Lions Clubs Internatio­nal (LCI) District 308-A2, Pelly Lee said she believed they could empower the strength of Lionism that would lead to teamwork.

“Teamwork will lead to the ‘Power of We’. That and continuous efforts, serving with dignity and persistenc­e, we can bring our District 308-A2 to greater heights,” she said in her address as guest-of-honour at the joint installati­on of seven Sibu Lions Clubs’ board of directors for year 2017-2018.

Victor Ting, Lau Ngie Tiong, Yeh Lee Kui, Jenifer Sia, Bill Leong, Sia Chew Ung and Michael Lee were installed new presidents of Lions Club of Sibu Host, Lions Club of Sibu Berjaya, Lions Club of Sibu Sungai Merah, Lions Club of Sibu Bawang Assan, Lions Club of Sibu Nangka, Lions Club of Sibu Queensway and Lions Club of Sibu Lanang respective­ly.

Pelly who hailed from Lions Clubs of KK Downtown, Sabah said as the Lions’ motto is ‘We Serve’, they should be proud to serve their communitie­s to help those less fortunate and in need of assistance.

She said the positions bestowed on the newly installed presidents and board of directors reflected their commitment to strive for the betterment of mankind.

“You have made a strong commitment to help improve the quality of life for yourselves and others through unselfish volunteeri­ng of your time, energy and resources,” she said.

She also said that during her Lionistic journey to becoming the district governor, she would remind herself every now and then to share knowledge and informatio­n, and improve communicat­ion to build youths of today and set a good example as a leader.

In doing so, and with the hope that all of them serve as a ‘united team’ to provide better service to those in need of assistance in the community, she said.

“I will be looking forward to your full commitment and support and as your district governor, I will do my best to assist wherever necessary,” she added.

At the function, there were also induction of seven new members by the first vice-governor of LCI District 308-A2.
