Not-so-fleet-footed shoe thief caught, handed over to police

-

MIRI: A local man was handed over to police after he was caught stealing shoes from a house in Promin Jaya, Senadin here on Saturday night.

The incident happened around 7.45pm when the 30- something suspect climbed over the fence of a house and stole three pairs of shoes from a rack in the porch.

As he was about to depart, a neighbour happened to spot him and immediately gave chase, and managed to apprehend the thief a short distance away.

A team of Resident Committee (RC) Senadin rushed over after being informed of the incident and called the police for assistance.

A motorcycle, believed to belong to the shoe thief, was found not far away from the scene and handed over to the police along with the suspect.

RC Senadin chairman Councillor Ong Chee Yee said it was RC Senadin’s first crime-related case since beginning its patrol of the residential area yesterday.

“We rushed over and called a team of MPV unit ( police patrolmen) so that the suspect could be taken to lockup for further investigation.

“We hope by doing this, it would help lessen the number of crime cases in the neighbourhood,” he said.

On another note, Ong called on those living in Senadin to join RC Senadin as volunteers for the betterment of the community in the residential area.
