‘JCI Sibu’s Love Lock project timely to promote tourism’

-

SIBU: Sibu as the gateway into the Central Region has great potential for developing the tourism industry.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King emphasised that Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sibu’s ‘ Lock The Love Project’ is timely in promoting tourism here.

“The benefits of the tourism industry include providing extra incomes and create more job opportunities, especially for the locals.

“JCI Sibu’s ‘ Lock The Love Project’ will serve as a tourist magnet that will attract visitors to visit Sibu,” he added.

Tiong was speaking at the launch of a JCI project at Sungai Merah yesterday as its guest- of-honour.

The event, which was conducted by JCI Sibu, was held as part of its 60th anniversary celebration, and also to recognise the JCI Sibu Sisterhood pact with JCI Korea, JCI Taiwan, JCI Hong Kong and JCI Philippines apart from celebrating its Brotherhood pact with JCI Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Those present included JCI Malaysia president Nurul Huda Mohd Affandi, alumni chairman Datuk Andrew Wong, anniversary organising chairwoman Irene Pet, project organising chairwoman Maggie Peh, JCI Sibu president Daphne Chiew, JCI national executive vice-president Samantha Yong, JCI Songpa president Kwon Tae Hyun, JCI Lion Rock president Stephen Wong, JCI Tucheng president Adam Wu, JCI Cebu president Ian who was represented by his financial secretary Charles Andrew, and JCI Tanjung Aru president Lenny Yap.

‘Lock The Love Project’ involves attaching a locked padlock to a structure, inspired by once popular tourist’s tradition of fastening locked padlocks to the Pont des Arts Bridge in Paris by couples, who then threw the key into the River Seine as a sign of their love.

“It ( project) is timely as it also serves to promote Sibu Visit Year 2017,” Tiong pointed out.

Tiong added the ‘ Love Locks’ are the expression of hope and humanity that connect people in unity with love.

“Your ‘Lock The Love Project’ is to express your love towards our beautiful town of Sibu. During the past 60 years, JCI Sibu has gone from strength to strength to bring love and caring services to Sibu.

“Thus, JCI Sibu has actually gone above and beyond. I am confident that Sibu people have benefitted greatly from JCI Sibu,” he pointed out.

Thus, Tiong called on all JCI Sibu members to keep up their excellent work as their good actions bring strength to themselves and inspired good actions in others as well.

“It is also indeed a matter of joy and success and a sign of every members’ commitment and cooperation that JCI Sibu has reached its 60th anniversary.

“I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to JCI Sibu on reaching this important milestone and wish you all continued success ahead,” he added.
