Teachers’ union calls for enhancement to present vocational college’s curriculum
SIBU: Sarawak Bumiputera Teachers Union ( KGBS) calls for the curriculum at vocational colleges to be further enhanced towards raising public confidence in this category of education institution.
KGBS president Ahmad Malie said this was pivotal in avoiding the community, especially the parents, from doubting the skills of those graduating from vocational colleges.
“In this regard, KGBS also urge the community to continue putting their trust and confidence in vocational colleges to produce quality human capital.
“Therefore, it is the union’s fervent hope that the human capital produced by the vocational colleges could bring about the goals under the National Transformation 2050 ( TN50) in time to come,” he said.
Ahmad was commenting on Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid’s recent statement about 90 per cent of the 2,273 vocational college (VC) students from the first group who graduated last year, having landed jobs in the area of their skills – proof that they had high marketability and industry’s recognition.
Mahdzir reportedly said for the second group, 41.74 per cent of the 12,997 VC students had been offered employment, even before their convocation.
The minister was replying to a question from Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim ( BN- Baling), who wanted to know about VC graduates’ marketability and vocational college diploma recognition status, during a session in the Dewan Rakyat recently.
