IKMAS diploma students to graduate tomorrow
KUCHING: Institut Kemahiran Islam Malaysia Sarawak’s ( IKMAS) convocation ceremony will be held tomorrow at the state Islamic Complex hall.
According to Sarawak Islamic Council ( MIS) president Datu Misnu Taha, the convocation for diploma students of IKMAS will see over 80 students receive their scrolls.
“These students will be the 15th batch to graduate from IKMAS since its first accepted students, and while the majority of them are Sarawakians, we do have about 15 who hail from Sabah,” Misnu said during a press conference after witnessing the rehearsal for the convocation at the hall yesterday.
Misnu added that the guestofhonour for the event would be Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib.
“We will also have Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom giving a speech at the convocation ceremony,” he added.
He explained that the convocation ceremony would also see the presentation of several awards such as the Excellent Students Award and the MIS Award.
According to Misnu, most IKMAS graduates go on to further their studies in degree programmes at religious institutions inside or outside the country, and some even took up masters studies.
As part of the activities leading up to the convocation, Misnu said several programmes such as ‘ Hari Mesra Komuniti’ were held yesterday in IKMAS Telaga Air.
The event also saw a cultural night last night on the ground f loor of Majma Mall, followed by an exhibition on IKMAS at the same venue.
