‘Work closely with each other and the police to curb crime’

-

KUCHING: Local residents should look out for one another instead of protecting their own interest when it comes to combating crime, said Samarahan district police chief DSP Lee Chong Chern.

Speaking during a dialogue session yesterday, he said the community ought to enhance rapport among themselves besides working closely with the authorities by offering tip- offs to curb break-ins.

According to Lee, the Riveria residential area in Samarahan has never faced serious security issues.

As such, the Samarahan police felt the need to explain to residents in the area about what had happened of late, he said.

“We read it in the newspapers that the security issue in this area has become a cause of concern. But we do not think it has come to that serious level.

“To date, we have received only one break-in case in this area,” he told local residents at the United People’s Party ( UPP) Samarahan branch premises at Riveria Square in Samarahan.

Lee informed individuals who were present at the session that the authorities would not be able to take further action if there was not enough evidence.

Because of this, he hoped that the people would collaborate with the authorities to fight crime in a more effective and efficient manner. UPP Samarahan branch organised the dialogue session to enlighten the public on how they could cooperate with the authorities to prevent and combat crime.
