Passenger caught with RM35,000 worth of Syabu
MIRI: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department arrested an airline passenger upon his arrival at Miri Airport on Sunday morning after discovering RM35,000 worth of Syabu inside his luggage.
The 22-year- old suspect from Peninsular Malaysia had just landed from Kuala Lumpur around 10am via a low- cost carrier.
Miri Customs deputy director of enforcement Mohli Amri confirmed the arrest when contacted yesterday, saying the suspect was caught after Customs officers executed an inspection of his checked-in luggage.
“Upon arrival at Miri Airport, the officers carried out a check on the suspect’s bag and found the drugs, weighing about 500g, inside a white plastic package.
“He was immediately detained for further questioning,” he said.
Mohli added the suspect claimed that he had come to Miri to visit his sister.
When asked, he said the suspect had only bought a one-way ticket, which was from KL to Miri.
It was also learnt that the suspect works for a tyre company in KL.
“The suspect has been remanded for five days beginning today (yesterday) until Aug 12 to facilitate our investigation,” Mohli said.
