Learn from, work together with one another, SAO advises grassroots leaders in Marudi
MARUDI: Local grassroots leaders – be they ‘ketua kaum’ ( headmen), ‘ tuai rumah’ ( longhouse chieftains), penghulu and kapitan ( heads of communities) or chairmen of village security and development committees ( JKKK) – should strive to learn from and share their input and experiences with one another.
According to state administrative officer (SAO) from Marudi District Office ( MDO) Nancy Abau, such cooperation is vital not only in fostering closer relationship between them, but also in facilitating the development of their areas.
“It is also important for them to be cooperative because they are the link between the authorities such as MDO and the communities. In this regard, it is crucial that all grassroots leaders here provide us with the profiles of their villages or longhouse, as well as their JKKKs.
“So far, we are happy to see such good cooperation from all of you,” she said during a meeting at the district office’s conference room recently.
The meeting, chaired by Nancy, discussed the progress of the village and longhouse profiles from more than 50 headmen from the Poyut/ Lubok Nibong areas, which are under the Mulu state constituency but still under the jurisdiction of MDO.
Meanwhile, Nancy said as far as the partnership between grassroots leaders is concerned, those from this district are considered the ‘ the best among those in other districts’.
“Take this meeting, for example. It is a successful gathering of 51 local headmen – the first that has ever been done in Marudi District.”
Adding on, Nancy reminded the attendees that there would be another meeting soon.
“There are still a few local headmen who have yet to submit their yearly reports and profiles. They can do so in the next meeting,” she said.
