24 new stalls at ‘Pasar Nelayan’ in Lutong ready for use
MIRI: The 24 new stalls at the ‘Pasar Nelayan’ (fishermen’s wet market) near Kampung Batu Satu, Lutong-Kuala Baram Road are now ready.
Miri Fishermen Association ( MFA) chairman Councillor Jamali Basri said all that is needed now is to wait for the relevant authorities and the contractor to construct the entry road as well as an outlet for fishermen’s boats to go out to sea at the retaining wall there.
“The construction of the stalls is completed and (they) will be handed to MFA officially when the construction of these two facilities is completed,” Jamali told The Borneo Post yesterday.
According to him, the association had earlier put up a notice to all fishermen in Lutong areas to apply for the stalls, adding that interviews had been carried out and successful applicants would start selling their fish soon.
He said Malaysia Fisheries Development Board ( LKIM) personnel and the association’s representatives including Ketua Kaum Kampung Batu Satu were also present during the interviews.
It is learnt this the Lutong facility is the fourth fishermen’s wet market here managed by the MFA so far, with its members occupying the stalls, ever-ready to serve customers seeking fresh fish.
“We hope the construction of the boat outlet going out to sea would commence soon as well as the entry road to the market, so that successful applicants could start selling fish there,” said Jamali.
