SIBU: Lions Club members must continue to uphold the club’s motto of doing good deeds aimed at bringing hope, joy, laughter and warmth to the communities that they are serving to.

Lions Club International ( LCI) District 308-A2 governor Pelly Lee made this call during the Sibu Mandarin Lions Club’s 28th anniversary dinner here on Sunday.

The event was also meant to celebrate the 12th anniversary of the Sibu Mandarin chapter’s twinning initiative with the Lions Club of Bagan in Penang.

“Let us join hands, work together and contribute our share of services to brighten other people’s days,” said Lee, who is from the Lions Club of KK Downtown in Sabah.

She also reminded the Lions to uphold LCI motto ‘ We Serve’, in the spirit of providing meaningful humanitarian services to the communities.

“This is in line with our LCI president Dr Naresh Aggarwal’s belief in ‘Namaste’, which means, ‘ the divine in me salutes the divine in you’.”

On the anniversary celebration, Lee said it was a significant milestone for the Sibu Mandarin Lions.

“I am certain all of you will join me in bringing our Lions movement to greater heights,” she said.

Meanwhile, Lions Club of Bagan president Alvin Ooi said his chapter’s twinning programme with Sibu Mandarin Lions Club was established in 2007 and since then, both sides have maintained a very close relationship.

At the function, Sibu Mandarin Lions Club contributed RM1,000 each to Sibu Kidney Foundation ( SKF), Association of Children with Special Needs Sibu and St John’s Ambulance Malaysia– Sibu Centre.

The dinner also raised RM34,000, of which the proceeds would be used to fund the club’s activities.
