More property projects to spur local economy

-

Also present to witness the ceremony were SEDC Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Dato Husain and UDA chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah.

Speaking after the MOU, Abdul Aziz guided that increased property development projects would not only stimulate economic growth locally, but also enable local businesses more opportunities to participate in the construction industry as there would be many work packets from future potential developments with UDA.

“The MOU will also help facilitate the exchanged of information and technology, potential for jointventures in property development management, land management and opportunities in the leisure industry,” he said in a press conference following the MOU signing.

“In particular, we hope that UDA will extend their knowledge and experience on township development and planning to help the SEDC as they begin delving into the urban transportation of Light Rail Transit (LRT) railway from Kuching city to Serian and Samarahan.”

To date, UDA has 46 years of experience within the property development industry, and developed several thriving townships in West Malaysia such as Bandar Tun Hussien Onn in Selangor, Bandar Baru UDA in Johor Bahru, Bandar Baru Bertam in Penang, and Taman Tun Dr Ismail suburb in KL.

“When we do a train from one point to the other, there will be a need for new commercial and residential developments in the surrounding areas.

“In this case, hopefully, they can also help in terms of planning, financing, and strategizing for this facet of the operation (LRT), alongside the other developments we plan to do together,” Abdul Aziz said.

Also speaking during the press conference, UDA’s Mohd Shafei was hopeful that the MOU would be a fruitful one.

“Having been established 46 years ago, we feel that we have something to offer to Sarawak and SEDC.

“We hope to help unlock the potential of the land here and also to help bring the knowledge and methods we have learnt and developed in Peninsular to help boost development here.”

When asked what director the first project between SEDC and UDA might be, Abdul Aziz said it would most likely be a commercial project, followed by a residential or mixed development project.

“Our land has been allocated, but we have not made any solid plans yet and we will announce it as we plan along later. We will start to plan and once it has been approved by the relevant authorities we will announce our results,” he said.
