Rabies vaccinatio­n programme at 11 Lundu villages today

KUCHING: A rabies vaccinatio­n programme will be held at 11 villages in Lundu district today.

The State Disaster Management Committee ( SDMC) secretaria­t said the villages are Kampung Biawak, Kampung Jantan, Kampung Jangkar, Kampung Pasir Tengah, Kampung Opek, Kampung Tanjam, Kampung Rukam, Kampung Pasir Hilir, Kampung Kendaie, Kampung Sedaing and Kampung Pasir Ulu.

In its statement, SDMC also reported that as of 3pm yesterday, 82 dogs at five villages in Serian Division were vaccinated.

“This brings the total number of vaccinated pets at present to 28,583 of which 20,941 were dogs, 7,597 cats and 45 other animals.”

Meanwhile, on new dog bite cases, the State Health Department reported a total of 103 cases yesterday, of which 84 cases involved pets ( 55 dogs and 29 cats) while the remaining 19 cases were from strays (15 dogs and four cats).

These cases were from Serian Division (41 cases), Samarahan (26 cases), Kuching (25 cases), and Sri Aman (11 cases).

“This brings the cumulative number of dog bite cases since April 1 until today ( yesterday) to 1,754 cases, while a total of 850 people have received the antirabies vaccinatio­n.”

A total of 160 awareness campaigns on rabies outbreak have since been held and were attended by 31,615 participan­ts.
