Shopplus targets 10,000 members by year-end

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Latest online shopping platform, Shopplus, is targeting to register 500 merchants and 10,000 members for its digital retail platform by year-end.

Chief technology officer, Cheng Chun Fu said by applying a “membership economy” business model, the company hoped to develop a win- win ecosystem through social media by encouraging shoppers and merchants to shop, share and earn cash back and shopping points from its sharing and purchasing system.

“Looking at how Malaysia is growing rapidly in the ecommerce industry, we foresee great potential in the online retail market.

“With Shopplus bringing in expertise from Taiwan, we believe entrepreneurship in the country will further be driven by the youths who can build their own business base,” Cheng said in a press conference after the official launch of Shopplus yesterday.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Chua Tee Yong, who witnessed the launch, encouraged more Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to embark on the digital platform in an effort to position Malaysia as a leading hub for e-commerce activities in the Asean region.

“We are one of the most connected countries in the world with some 21 million Internet users from a population of 30 million currently.

“Realising this, the government is also committed to expediting the lifting of non-tariff barriers to boost cross-border e-commerce transactions and ensure that more SMEs are export-ready and capable of meeting stringent demands of the international markets,” said Chua in his speech.

Registered under Harmony Bridge Sdn Bhd, Shopplus is a Malaysian initiative which offers convenient online shopping experience and shorter waiting time for items purchased from Taiwan.

Currently, it has secured over 200 merchants with about 10,000 items on its platform, out of which 20 per cent of items are sourced from Taiwan while the remaining are local products.

It carries six major categories – fashion, digital and electronic goods, home and living, sports and leisure, baby and kids and automotive. — Bernama
