KUCHING: Smart Reader Worldwide recently kicked off ‘Ayuh Kayuh Bersama Team DYTM Raja Muda Perlis’ (Ayuh Kayuh), a cycle and run family event held in conjunction with Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) Sunday Car-Free Morning.

According to a press statement, the main objective of the event was to raise funds for the National One Child One Hope Education Scholarship Programme, an initiative by Smart Reader Worldwide with the aim of ensuring accessibility to quality early childhood education through the provision of scholarships to underprivileged children.

Ayuh Kayuh, which was officiated by Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, was divided into two main routes in the heart of Kuala Lumpur – a 7km cycling route led by Tuanku Syed Faizuddin and a 2.5km walk and run led by Tuanku Lailatul.

The not-for-profit event attracted 1,000 participants ranging from children as young as four to parents and even grandparents. Notwithstanding its charitable aims, the event managed to create a spirit of togetherness, as well as promote a healthy lifestyle within families.

The event continued with a mock cheque presentation from the main sponsors of Ayuh Kayuh, which comprises DRBHicom, Petronas Dagangan Berhad and Perbadanan Nasional Berhad.

Following this was the appreciation of three highest participating Smart Reader Kids centres, namely Smart Reader Kids SS19 Subang Jaya, Smart Reader Kids Bukit Kuda and Smart Reader Kids Taman Sri Hartamas.

Smart Reader Worldwide chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Richard Ong said: “We are always looking at ways we can contribute to the development of the early childhood education industry in Malaysia. It is important to recognise that high quality education early in life gives children the best start.

“Through the One Child One Hope initiative, we continue to strive towards ensuring the provision of accessible quality education for all children. At the same time, Ayuh Kayuh represents a perfect opportunity for parents and children to spend some time together, fostering family values that will strengthen the fabric of society.”

With Tuanku Lailatul as the Royal Patron, the One Child One Hope programme continues its endeavours to ensure every child — regardless of race, creed or social status — achieves full potential in life. The initiative has enabled more than 500 less fortunate children to experience quality early childhood education.
