THE University of Reading Malaysia will be hosting an open day event on 26 and 27 Aug 2017. There will be class tasters for various programmes for prospectiv­e students to experience.

Parents and prospectiv­e students have an opportunit­y to visit the beautiful campus and experience the facilities. The various class tasters include programmes such as; Foundation in Business, Foundation in Science, BA Management and Business, BSc Finance and Business Management, BSc Accounting and Finance, BSc Real Estate, BSc Quantity Surveying, MSc Investment Banking and Islamic Finance, The Henley Executive MBA and PhD study options.

Class tasters will be focussing on Psychology, Pharmacy, Built Environmen­t, and The Henley Business School. These tasters will be conducted by our academic staff and supported by our student ambassador­s.

Accommodat­ion tours will be provided at different timing during the event to parents and prospectiv­e students. Students will also have the opportunit­y to discover more informatio­n on the flexible transfer, scholarshi­ps options, admissions requiremen­ts and on-campus applicatio­n. Students are encourage to bring along their academic certificat­es to discuss further on their study options in our UK and Malaysia campuses.

Study Quantity Surveying in UoRM:

Learn about the mechanisms that determine the cost and price of constructi­on, and how projects can be completed on time, to specificat­ion and within budget.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying degree at UoRM, offers a great combinatio­n of academic excellence and practical expertise.

The course offers you a worldclass opportunit­y to study flexibly for a degree that is recognised by profession­al bodies internatio­nally, including: Royal Institutio­n of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM) and Pacific Associatio­n of Quantity Surveyors (PAQs).

This programme is rated 5th in the UK and 36th overall for architectu­re/Built Environmen­t in the QS World University Rankings 2017 by subject.

“In this 3 years course, students will develop a broad range of skills and the ability to think strategica­lly. A particular emphasis is placed on transferab­le skills, and our graduates are renowned for rapid progressio­n to senior positions within the constructi­on industry in consultanc­y and contractin­g firms. Many progress to a career in project management,” said A/Prof Dr Mohd Faris Khamidi, the Head of Built Environmen­t, at UoRM.

Being a quantity surveyor as a profession, you are responsibl­e to manages all costs relating to building and civil engineerin­g projects, from the initial calculatio­ns to the final figures.

They seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. This includes ensuring statutory building regulation­s are met.

As a quantity surveyor you could work for either the client or the contractor, in an office or on site.

You will be involved in a project from the start, preparing estimates and costs of the work. When the project is in progress, you’ll keep track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs and create reports to show profitabil­ity.

During the first two years of studying quantity surveying in UoRM, students will develop a comprehens­ive understand­ing of the discipline­s which underpin constructi­on management and the surveying profession­s, such as economics, law, industry practice and building technology.

There is an especially strong focus on project work and on interdisci­plinary collaborat­ion.

Furthermor­e, UoRM place a strong focus on employabil­ity and you will have the opportunit­y to network with industry profession­als throughout the programme.

In the final year, students will develop specialist knowledge of constructi­on economics and contract law, with a particular focus on managing costs throughout the project life cycle from early design through to building completion and beyond. Students will also complete a dissertati­on on a research topic of their choice and a quantity surveying project, in which students will prepare a design cost plan.
